Removing the volts front seats.
Our Volt didn't come with heated seats. For what we paid for the car we were willing to over look it. But it doesn't mean we didn't want them. We decided to add some after market seat heaters.
To remove the seat from the car:
The seat belt needs to be disconnected from the seat. to do that pry out the little circle on the plastic bit that connects the belt to the seat. See the picture below. Note how the cap stays attached at the bottom.
Remove the bolt in the center remove the plastic half.
Then simply remove the metal tab that the belt attaches. Might need to slide it down slightly to get it out.
You may also might want to remove the head rest. It will give more clearance for removing the seat. Raise the headrest then remove the plastic bezels at the base of the posts by rotating them counter clockwise.
To remove the headrest from the seat there is a latch on both posts that must be released. It is a spring wire with a rounded loop in the end. Reach down inside the seat an push on the end of the wire moving it away from the post. In the picture to the left the screwdriver is pressing on the release. The headrest and bezels aren't in the picture so the spring clip can be seen better.
To unbolt the seat there are two torx bolts at the rear. Move the seat all the way forward to access them. May as well lower the seat too for more room getting it out of the car. And fold the seat back forward.
The bolt closest to the side of the car (Left on the drivers seat in USA) there is a plastic finishing cover. On the instructions I had it said pry up on the REAR of the cover. Well while that did work it is not the correct place. To the left is the cover after I removed it. laying on it side. Top of the picture is the front of the car. you can see bottom is a formed "L" and the top is the hook. So I'd suggest prying up on the front edge of this bit. once this cover is off remove the bolts. They are lock tighted in so they may come out kind of hard all the way.
Once the seat is unbolted it can be tipped forward and unhooked from the front hooks that hold it in.
At some point the wiring connector needs to be disconnected. I did this now. It was easier to see what I was doing after moving the seat back a bit. I also noticed that on my wire there was a clip that worked to secure the dangling connector to one of the rods crossing under the seat. Expect that was left there from making the car. Might as well use it.
You may also consider sliding the seat back a bit so the seat tracks don't stick out so much when trying to get it out of the car. But that's up ti you.
the seat should now be out.
Perhaps I write more about disassembling the seat later. But here are a few bits now.
The handle that tilts the seat just pries off. No fasteners.
The handle that is used to raise and lower the seat has a cover that pops out and then 2 torx bolts hold it on. Before removing it, if planning to take the side plastic off, raise the seat to fully up position.
